The Xbox Series S is not a popular console. Microsoft’s affordable current-gen offering has been a blessing for some players who may not be able to afford a new console otherwise, but that doesn’t mean many within the industry like it. And it’s because of the limitations.
Multiple times games have been delayed due to Microsoft’s policy that games released on its platform need to work the same on the Series S as it does the Series X. This has led to games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and, more recently, Black Myth: Wukong not launching on Xbox on time due to issues with the Series S.
In a post on Twitter over the weekend, developer Del Walker, who previously worked on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and The Last of Us: Part 2, said out loud what many developers are likely thinking about the Xbox Series S.
“I wish the Series S never existed, man,” he said. “So annoying to optimize for that console – I expect we’ll unfortunately see more game launches get skipped by Xbox in the future.”
Despite the concerns and frustrations, Microsoft isn’t letting the Xbox Series S die. The company is set to release a new 1TB version of the console later this year along with two new Xbox Series X systems.
