Your One Stop for Star Wars Outlaws Tips and Tricks

Following the relatively short prologue, in which you come to grips with the game’s main character, Kay Vess, her sidekick, Nyx, and many of the game’s core mechanics, you’re inevitably thrust into a galaxy far, far away. It’s a lot to tackle, with little direction besides the occasional story mission. As such, we’ve compiled several Star Wars Outlaws tips and tricks to help you gain footing in the galaxy’s criminal underworld!

Star Wars Tips and Tricks to Navigate the Criminal Underworld

While it’s not an immersive sim, Star Wars Outlaws does offer numerous paths to complete objectives. You can stealth, take to the rooftops, or shoot your way out of situations. Plus, you have multiple gadgets to help you. It’s a lot to soak in as a new player, so we have a growing list of tips and tricks for the game!

Don’t Be Afraid of Combat

While Star Wars Outlaws heavily leans into its stealth mechanics, things don’t always go as planned. You’ll either roll with the punches or reload a prior save to salvage a stealth infiltration. Sometimes, it’s better to opt for the former. The game’s combat isn’t complex nor scary; it’s immensely straightforward and, honestly, rather rewarding. You feel like a badass in the Star Wars universe as you pop out from behind cover to land a few well-placed blaster shots before ducking back down.

As you take down enemies using your trusty blaster pistol, which will kill in a handful of headshots, enemies will occasionally drop their blaster rifles. They pack a bigger punch and fire full auto but are limited. You’ll run through its charge pack, then drop the rifle in favor of your blaster again.

Engage With NPCs

I’m guilty of running through an open world to follow along with the main story quests, first and foremost. But that’s a mistake. As is all too common with such games, Star Wars Outlaws’ side stories excel where the main story falls short. That’s not to say every NPC you interact with on the side offers a compelling backstory and a side quest worth your time. Many don’t, but you’ll miss out on potential rewards and quest lines by ignoring passersby.

Take this fellow in the screenshot above, for example. He doesn’t impact the overall story significantly; he’s a down-on-his-luck gambling addict searching for credits outside the cantina on Toshara. If you’re willing to help him with a loan of, say, 100 or 500 credits, he’ll pack you back with interest. Or not. It’s a gamble!

Gather Information

You’re now part of the seedy underworld in Star Wars Outlaws, which means you can’t always play fair. Sometimes, you must play dirt and use insider information to get ahead, such as stealing a datapad with betting information on an upcoming race or acquiring dirt on a target that will allow you to successfully bluff your way into or out of situations.

If you encounter a guard, for example, that won’t allow you entrance, explore the surrounding environment. You’re sure to find clues that will grant you an advantage.

Recon the Area Before Infiltrating

While it’s true that you’ll spend much time inside the game’s various cities and settlements, you’ll wind up leaving the relative safety of the walls to explore the wilds by speeder bike. As you travel down the travels, you will encounter minor points of interest, including camps, cantinas, and compounds. Some of these prove mundane. Others, not so much. They’re full of life, most of which is hostile, along with plenty of loot.

Before you run headlong into a fight, with nothing but your blaster as backup, find a bit of high ground and scope out the immediate area using your binoculars. You can spot and mark up to ten objects or enemies, and once they’re marked, they remain so as you infiltrate the POI. You’ll know precisely where any wandering guards are, allowing you to sneak past or around easily.

Complete False Flag

While working your way through the quests on Toshara, you will inevitably wind up in Jaunt’s Hope. It’s a small settlement where Waka brings the Trailblazer for repairs, and it’ll act as a hub location while you’re exploring the planet outside of the central city. In time, you’ll receive the False Hope main quest from Eleera. She wants you to scrub some data from an Imperial Station in space above Toshara, and despite Waka’s claims that the ship isn’t ready, you are.

False Hope is something of a final tutorial. After you complete this main quest, more of the game opens up. You can explore, travel between locations, meet new characters, and tackle side quests. If that’s your goal, to see and do everything each planet offers, then play along through the main story until you complete this point, then go wild!
