GSC Game World, developers of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, have confirmed that the game will run at 30 fps on the Xbox Series S at launch.
In an interview with Windows Central, the developers revealed that Stalker 2 will ‘stick to 30 fps’ for the Xbox Series S. On the Series X, the game runs at 60 fps, dropping to 55 at times. In some situations, the developers hit the 60 fps mark for the Series S, but the consistency did not match the likes of the Series X. However, GSC is “looking to get a performance mode for Xbox Series S, to get it to 60 FPS”, and they think “it’s possible”.
The developers initially thought it would be “impossible” to release Stalker 2 for the Xbox Series S due to the game’s mechanics and “huge amount of things.” However, after they started optimizing, using Unreal Engine’s features for steaming information, and squeezing up “every megabyte from every piece of system content,” things began to change.
The developers added that, after optimizing Stalker 2 for the Xbox Series S, they believe any game can reach the platform’s “memory limits.” At the same time, they understand that not every developer has the time and resources to optimize. But GSC’s optimization efforts have also helped the PC build for the game, “making it a lot more performant.” Due to that, Stalker 2 has “quite low minimum PC requirements for a modern game.”
In other news, Stalker: Legends of the Zone is coming to Nintendo in November. Also, it will take 100 hours to complete Stalker 2 fully. What are your thoughts on Stalker 2 running at 30 fps on the Xbox Series S? Let us know in the comments or our new community forum!
