It’s evident from the overall gameplay style of Saber’s recent titles, namely Space Marine 2 and World War Z, that its Swarm Engine offers much potential. The upcoming John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando will utilize the same mass enemy technology to spawn hundreds or thousands of monsters to fight. But there’s something sorely missing from their recent endeavor. Will Space Marine 2 get a horde mode?
Is Horde Mode Coming to Space Marine 2?
It’s happening! Space Marine 2 will receive a horde mode, as per Saber Interactive, sometime during Season 4 in 2025. It’s a long way off—many months—but now that we know an official horde mode is coming, it’s all the more exciting.
If you ever played the horde mode or XL horde mode in World War Z, you’ll know what we can expect from the Space Marine 2 version. I suspect we’ll defend points, standing stalwart against the hordes of Tyranids and cut down foes in increasingly difficult waves. I don’t see players upgrading barriers or turrets as in WWZ, but acquiring better weaponry seems likely.

If you can’t wait for Saber to launch its horde mode in Space Marine 2—I don’t blame you one bit—then here are a few recommendations to satiate your bloodlust:
- World War Z (Also by Saber Interactive!)
- Killing Floor 2
- GTFO
- Left 4 Dead 2
- Back 4 Blood
Hey, don’t knock Back 4 Blood. It’s certainly not a Left 4 Dead 2-killer, as so many were hoping, but it’s still a well-rounded horde shooter that’s come a long way since launch!
