Rumors Pointing To A New Steam Console From Valve

Valve appears to be developing a new standalone Steam console for players. According to recent rumors and findings from various Valve data miners, the Washington-based company is working on a new traditional system known has “Fremont” along with the Steam Controller 2 and Deckard VR headset.

In a series of posts on social media, Valve insider Brad Lynch posted what he considers to be signs of the new SteamOS hardware.

First, he discussed why it couldn’t be a dock for current devices like the Steam Deck. Lynch said that the evidence suggests a full-size HDMI port being hardwired to the card directly as opposed to being connected via USB-C.

“All references to Fremont ensure checks for a full-size HDMI Type-A port you’d see on TV-focused consoles and other desktop computers that don’t have a dedicated GPU with its own HDMI ports,” Lynch said.

In other data areas, it shows AMD Lilac board being used for development while the final board is completed with firmware specifically developed for this new device being worked on as well. It’s also shown that Quanta Computer, the manufacturer of the Steam Deck, is providing feedback on the new system.

Valve has not commented on any of the rumors, and, as such, everything here should be taken with a grain of salt until it’s confirmed. It’s worth noting, however, that the company is approaching the 10-year anniversary of when it released its first Steam Controller and Steam Machines.

  • Unlike Steam Machine it would make a ton of money now. The market has changed and digital only is accepted much more now. I mean Microsoft and Sony are essentially making digital only consoles now already this would be a deathblow to them.

  • If steam released a home console that could log into other game marketplaces like the steam deck, the Xbox and Playstation would be cooked. Sony would push out even more exclusives to try maintaining marketshare.

  • The pony cope is crazy here. No one is buying your garbage console that has no games and buying a Steam console makes PC gaming much easier for the console market.

  • This will kill Xbox and PS. It’s easier to have all your games on Steam instead of split apart. At most just have a Switch. Microsoft will be fine since their games are on Steam and so is Game Pass.

  • Saying console players are not interested in the Steam ecosystem is beyond wrong. There are a few variables that both sides don’t seem to grasp. By that I mean this comment here, PC players calling console players broke when we spend way more money on console then PC players do.

Most people it’s ease of access, they want to turn on their machine and play games. Not worth about drivers for both the PC and Games. They prefer the target ranges on consoles even if costs Framerates. Also the need to understand a build and actually do it. This however will change that, Microsoft might want to bump up their launch date for the next Xbox as I see this as Xboxs next move.

How could you not want cheaper games, way better mods andna variety of choices for a platform? Something like this would give you just that but with a console experience instead of a rig. The moment they do this, I’m done buying consoles. A lot of others may make the switch to Sony is scrambling to because they are not ready for this paradigm shift, Xbox is. More people will switch than you think so long as the launch window is right.

  • As a PC user a PC console would not compete with sony xbox other hand yes gabe dislikes windows OS is day sale it in store fronts
