Take-Two’s CEO Says Red Dead’s $50 Price Tag is Justified

It was revealed just days ago that a Red Dead Redemption port is headed to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch – and that Undead Nightmare will also be joining it. It was also announced that the thirteen-year-old game will carry a price tag of $50 – which immediately surfaced as a sore spot for those eager to get stuck back into the adventures of John Marston.

However, amidst news that Take-Two’s bookings for Q2 had risen 20% to $1.2 billion, CEO Strauss Zelnick insisted that the $50 price tag for Red Dead Redemption was ‘commercially accurate’ and justified.

Will You Pay $50 For Red Dead Redemption?

It’s a harsh price, but it’s indicative of the times – and that’s effectively what Zelnick was saying to IGN.

That’s just what we believe is the commerically accurate price for it.

It’s not the worst thing in the world, to be honest. For those that have never played it before, both Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare are full and lengthy games – even if the latter is a bit shorter than the former. They’re fantastic titles that offer up hours of entertainment, and for those that have played them, it’s the price to pay for a trip down memory lane.

The ports have been worked on by Double Eleven, a United Kingdom-based studio that has plenty of experience porting these sizeable games to handheld platforms – or taking large PC games and moving them to consoles. They’re expected to be technically sound but they’re offering nothing new. They’re the same as they ever were, but is that really a bad thing?

Are you going to invest the $50 in Red Dead Redemption on the Switch or the PS4?
