Path of Exile II Queue Warning Issued as 1 Million Early Access Redemptions Are Hit

Path of Exile II’s early access window opens today, and Grinding Gear Games has taken to social media to share a warning. In a post, it was revealed that more than one million early access redemptions have been secured, prompting the team to be frank about something.

In the update, it was noted that ‘there may very well be queues over the weekend’.

Hurry and Wait

Those eager to dive deep into Path of Exile II this weekend might be met with a stonewall in the form of a server queue, GGG has revealed. In a post on Twitter, the team shared the news that PoE II has secured one million early access redemptions, but that success story is tainted with the potential for something awkward to unravel.

The team wrote on social media:

We’ve just reached 1 million Early Access redemptions. The support you have all shown for Path of Exile 2 Early Access is far beyond anything we could have ever predicted. However we want to be upfront with you all and let you know there may very well be queues over the weekend.

In a video talking about the milestone, Jonathan Rogers, the game’s developer, explained:

We really didn’t expect to have more than one million people online at the same time. We’ve already ordered way more cloud capacity, and those servers will be coming online very soon. But I do have some concerns about issues with the back-end. We quite frankly don’t know what our back-end services are going to be able to handle as we go above a million users.

Now, we’ve added more database shards, scaling everything we have up as far as it’ll go, but we’re really not sure what kind of limits we might hit. We never expected things to go this big during EA.

I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you guys so much for believing in this project. If we do run into server issues at launch, just know that we’re going to be working as hard as we can to solve them.

Are you willing to stand in a queue and wait for your turn to play Path of Exile II? Let us know on the Insider Gaming forum.
