Palworld developers Pocket Pair have announced that game has surpassed 32 million players in its first year.
Announced on X (formerly Twitter), the company said that in its first year of release the game has surpassed 32 million players across Steam, Xbox Series S|X, Xbox One, and PS5.
The game first released on January 19, 2024 and became an overnight success, achieving one million copies sold in its first eight hours. Its success continued, going on to sell two million copies in 24 hours, three million in 40 hours, and eight million in six days.
On January 27, Palworld recorded 2,101,867 concurrent players on Steam and made it one of the highest-player counts of all time on steam, behind that of PUBG. As of February 22, 2024, it was announced that the game sold 15 million copies on Steam and had reached 10 million players on Xbox.
Its success hasn’t been without issues though as following its highly successful launch, the game was criticised for its creatures, known as ‘Pals’, for being too similar, or in some cases plagiarizing Pokémon.
The accusations seemed to have that much weight, that in September 2024, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair for infringement of patent rights.

These guys should work with the creator of Toriko. I’d honestly love to see them make a Toriko game or CyberConnect2 make one with a big budget like Bandai publishing. The creator of Toriko has great ideas I think that would match their visions and no Nintendo lawsuits. Sidenote we need a Palworld anime.
