It has just been announced that North Beach Games has opened a new office in Prague and that the studio’s first game will be Stranded Deep 2. The new studio is led by North Beach CTO Sam Edwards, the creator of the original Stranded Deep game that was first released in 2015.
In a press release, it was stated that North Beach Games is ‘reuniting’ with Edwards to develop this long-awaited sequel, which will be a follow-on from the best-selling survival game that has sold millions of copies over the last decade.
Get Stranded Again
In a press release published today to break this news, Sam Edwards said:
We’re super excited to be kicking off the development of Stranded Deep 2 with our new development team, North Beach Games Prague. Tomáš (GM at North Beach Prague) and his talented team will be a great partner to build out the studio as we look to the future of the franchise and explore new horizons.
As part of this expansion effort, it was also confirmed that the North Beach team intends to broaden its publishing arm. Presently, the squad is working with the likes of Free Range Games and Middle-earth Enterprises to release The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria.
Stranded Deep is a stellar survival game that was arguably one of the first to popularise the genre. It came out around the time that the likes of The Forest were soaring, helping to put survival games on the map. In this game, players assume control of the survivor of a plane wreck, landing in the middle of an archipelago and needing to craft, hunt, and explore to survive hostile wildlife and harsh conditions.
One of the most unique elements of Stranded Deep was that the make-up of islands around the player was different every time they started a new game.
Nothing has been confirmed about Stranded Deep 2, aside from the fact that it’s going to be developed, so watch this space.
