Nobody Is Wishlisting Concord on Steam

Concord’s beta hasn’t been a huge success for Firewalk Studios. It fell flat on its face on Steam, the number-one storefront and launcher platform on PC, drawing in just a few thousand players. Now that the dust has settled following the end of the beta phase, we can confirm that nobody wants to wishlist the game, indicating that the beta didn’t hit the spot with gamers anywhere.

At the time of writing, Concord sits at #793 on the Steam Wishlist Leaderboard – and it’s being released in just under one month.

DOA?

Concord is a premium (which means it has a price tag) shooter from Firewalk Studios that’s being released on PlayStation and PC next month. Presently, just 4,129 people have wishlisted the game on Steam, which is a paltry figure (thanks to TheGamer for noticing this miserable performance).

To put that into perspective, here are the wishlist numbers for some other upcoming titles:

  • STALKER 2: 217,854 (#4)
  • Arena Breakout: Infinite: 119,076 (#13)
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: 61,630 (#24)
  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard: 42,524 (#55)
  • State of Decay 3: 14,441 (#153)

It was recently revealed that Concord won’t have a battle pass mechanic – but it will still have cosmetic-based microtransactions. That’s something of a win for players, but it’s not enough good news to drive up the hype for the upcoming shooter.

Concord was revealed during Sony’s latest PlayStation showcase, but it didn’t turn too many heads. For one thing, people are generally tired of the Overwatch-esque first-person hero shooters. It’s an overdone trope that’s no longer interesting or innovative enough to make gamers excited.

Are you going to give Concord a try when it releases next month?

  • Cool, sure but Concord is currently the 15th most pre-ordered game on the PlayStation Store for the UK. If we look at Steam DB, Concord’s beta numbers would rank it as the 4th most played arena shooter by concurrent players. Currently, The Finals holds the top spot among arena shooters with 10k players. Your points don’t fully capture the genre’s dynamics. There’s clearly more data from PlayStation that we haven’t seen. Many arena shooters on Steam, including games like Splitgate, Halo Infinite, and Quake, consistently have far fewer players than Concord’s beta. Halo, for instance, has around 900-1,400 players. Look it up. Arena shooters are niche, but Concord is more than capable of finding an audience. I expect it to perform much better on PlayStation than on PC, especially as updates and weekly content continue to nurture the community, assuming FireWalk listens to feedback.

I’m not saying it’ll be as massive as Overwatch, but it could certainly compete with The Finals’ CCU and similar games in the genre. This could be similar to how fighting games, Deep Rock Galactic, or The Forest slowly build and foster communities. Additionally, Sony has numerous levers to pull, from free weekends to PSN marketing, eSports, and more. It’s premature to dismiss Concord based on low Steam numbers alone. In fact, the drop-off rate for Concord was 47% (2.4k to 1.1k), while Rivals dropped from 52k to 14k, a 73% decrease. This suggests Concord is more engaging.

It’s clear that Concord will find a user base, whether small or medium, and matches and lobbies will load fine. Many people in the beta enjoyed it and found games quickly. The real question is, how patient is Sony? Not including a season pass/battle pass token in the pre-order was odd, and now we know the game has no battle pass, adopting a more traditional a la carte sales approach. This is quite different in today’s market. As a platform holder, Sony arguably has the most data on live games. We’ll see how it plays out, but it’s a shame to see the hardcore zeitgeist dunk on it for these numbers, which, while dismal, reflect a beta of a new IP. Sort of like a Rainbow Six Siege, Among Us or a No Man’s Sky. Which all are priced games too that grew into the success they are today.

(Delete the last message, that spellcheck failed me) <3

    • What part of UK are you in? 😀 I opened pre order list on my PS5 and Concord is 44th.

What Rivals are you talking about? Those Steam numbers are not from Marvel Rivals.
      You are posting wrong numbers.

  • Just to say it seems there is a typo under the section ‘DOA’ as your sentence says “Concord is a free-to-play shooter from Firewalk Studios” but it’s not F2P.
