Nintendo’s Doug Bowser Defends The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Price

One of the bigger stories in the last couple of months involving Nintendo has nothing to do with features of any game coming to the Nintendo Switch. Instead, it involves the price of the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

After first-party games on the Switch being $60 on average, Nintendo changed course when it was revealed that Tears of the Kingdom will be $70. The $10 increase for a game on a six-year-old console certainly didn’t sit well with consumers. However, in a recent interview with The Associated Press, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser defended the decision.

“We look at what the game has to offer,” he said. “I think fans will find this is an incredibly full, deeply immersive experience.

“The price point reflects the type of experience that fans can expect when it comes to playing this particular game. This isn’t a price point that we’ll necessarily have on all our titles. It’s actually a fairly common pricing model either here or in Europe or other parts of the world, where the pricing may vary depending on the game itself.”

Bowser also stated that the company has sales goals for the latest Legend of Zelda installment, but wasn’t ready to disclose that information publicly.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the King launches May 12 for Nintendo Switch. The game is the direct sequel to 2017’s Breath of the Wild which launched alongside the release of the Switch console.

What do you make of the Tears of the Kingdom price?
