It has been announced that price for games on the Nintendo Switch 2 will set players back up to $80 for digital and $90 for physical. At least in some cases.
The price increase also means that Nintendo Switch 2 games will cost 80 euros for a digital copy in Europe, while physical will be for 90 euros. Image provided by @elesnicho, and the 90 euro price tag can be found on the Nintendo store here.
Mario Kart World a 89,99€ en físico. ¿Opiniones?
The announcement of $80 digital video games for the Nintendo Switch 2 can be found on the official Nintendo website. It’s worth mentioning, however, that Donkey Kong Bananza is being priced at $70. That seems to suggest it will continue to be a game-by-game basis, though $80-$90 seems more welcomed by Nintendo.
Video game price increases have been a hotly talked about subject for a number of years and with the cost of game development increasing tenfold in the past 10 years, it’s a surprise that the increase didn’t come soon.
As for what this means for other publishers moving forward remains to be seen, but with Nintendo now setting the precedent, it wouldn’t be surprising $80-$90 becomes the new norm.
Rumors last year began circulating that Grand Theft Auto 6 would set the precedent of game price increases, with some suggesting that the game will retail at $100. But while the price increase from Nintendo isn’t near that level, it does beg the question if take-Two Interactive now think such a price increase is possible.

GRA 6 can be $100 base edition then.
Microsoft might come back yet with these prices. Buy Take Two and launch those games in Game Pass too and Game Pass is the best bet in gaming you can’t deny it anymore. Just need better marketing people dump Aaron finally.
Wont buy at that price. Maxed out sorry willl just play on old games/systems
Now if only we were paid enough to afford any of this bullcrap…
Have the published the pricing models for any games besides MK: World and DK:Bonanza? Seems a bit disingenuous to suggest all games are going to be $80-$90 when we only have data on two games. You would know better than me, I’m just curious if you have other info? Thanks!
Back to 90s game prices.
Yeah, that’s why I rarely buy games on day one anymore. Been on Gamepass since its beginning so i never had to buy any Xbox exclusives . Obviously, I’ve bought games but only when they’ve gone on sale. I think most people saw this coming when the price point of $60 out the gate became the standard. And then it went up to $70 and now we’re seeing game editions up to $100 which is beyond ridiculous to me. I’d never fork over $100 for a single game, not with bills and rent and everything else in life already being super expensive. Nowadays, I just go to GOG and buy old pc games that I never got around to playing and for current gen games its either gamepass or I wait for a sale. Hell, I don’t even have a current gen console, just an xbox one s and cloud gaming in order to play the current gen titles I want to play which to be honest has been very seriously limited to like maybe 5 games and I own those games now thanks to the ability to stream those titles via cloud and ridiculously low sales prices. I honestly think that when I buy am xbox series s in a month or two its gonna be the last console I buy. There’s just no point. I hope Nintendo comes up with a subscription model that’s on par with gamepass because my decision to buy a switch 2 is gonna be based on that now it seems.
Absolutely not. No way I can afford to buy games at that price. I wanted to be a day one purchase of the switch 2… But I’m going to stay with my PC, PS5, switch, and instead of buying this, buy a steam deck, where I can get reasonably priced games.
*Looks at overflowing steam library*
*Looks at steamdeck*
Yea…yea…sorry Nintendo, this is where we part.
It’s like Nintendo is just trying to fail or just see how much they can screw their fan base. They have 10 year old graphics. Absolute trash joycon controllers that are worse than any controller ever even random generic ones. They provide no chat system actually on the console. The games never go down in price despite not even being released on the current gen console. I think I would rather develope a heroine addiction than ever buy anymore of their products.
Heeeeck no, I’m not pay $80 for a video game
Yeah, was gonna be an early adopter but this is insane. Sticking with my P.C, Original Switch and my Xbox series X…I will buy a Steam Deck before I buy a switch 2!
No thanks, play pal world instead.
Back to 90s game prices and setting an entry-level margin for poor idiots to go outside and do anything at all with their lives. I’ve been waiting years for this model to resurface. Game launches will only be guaranteed to suck at Christmas now! This is exciting. Have fun in the dust poors.
Well, good going Nintendo, you greed has finally pushed me away. This will be the first Nintendo system that I will refuse to ever purchase. $80 USD converts to $114 CAD and when I still have a hard time accepting $90-95 CAD for AAA games on PC, NO WAY WILL I PAY $115 FOR YOUR GAMES! That’s just digital, if physical (which I always buy) are going to cost $10 more (so about $15 CAD additional) then no way in h*ll will I pay $130 CAD for a physical game.
This is a new low for Nintendo and the gaming industry and if this is where it’s going then I’m done. I have an insane backlog on Switch and PC (desktop and I have Steam Deck) so I have no need for the Switch 2 then at those game prices. Console price I can accept, but not those game prices, especially how shady and greedy they are and then adding more to it for physical games.
You’ve finally outdone yourselves Nintendo, all that hype and momentum ruined by your greed. I really hope the system is a flop and people refuse to support this blatant gouging and astromonical nickel and diming (the additional cost for physical).
Goodbye Nintendo, it was fun while it lasted (and I’ve been gaming since before NES so when I say first Nintendo console I won’t own, I literally mean it because I have owned every single system Nintendo has released from the start.
Game development cost haven’t gone up lmao half the game companies are so lazy they copy n paste assests from unreal engine 5 and then runs at 25fps on console and barely plays well on a medium end PC the issue is people like the person who posted this article just willing to bend over and accept this nonsense like it’s the new norm when half the current gen games out run like trash because they want to port every game to unreal engine 5 and not a single company knows how to properly utilize it STOP making excuses for lazy developers
Why are we just sitting here and letting them raise prices to be even more unaffordable than last year? What happened to voting with our wallets?
I thought the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct was fantastic, but if the price of games goes too high then I can’t see mine being used to play that many Switch 2 games.
I drew the line at $70 games, I will wait until the end of time for a sale. But on no planet am I spending upwards of $80 on a single game.
Just like Kemix said, I’ve got dozens of games in a dozen other libraries.
I’m not buying any game at $80. I’ll just wait for it to go on sale. It’s not that big of a deal.
