The new multiplayer Witcher game from CD Projekt Red studio The Molasses Flood has been rebooted.
Known as “Project Sirius” the game’s reboot reveal comes directly via CD Projekt Red itself.
The company announced on Monday “its decision regarding the establishment in the Company’s books of an impairment allowance with regard to expenses incurred in the scope of development work related to Project Sirius, which is under development at The Molasses Flood studio.”
CD Projekt Red spent over $7 million in 2022 on Project Sirius’ development. In 2023, the company has spent over $2.2 million on it. With this news, it appears CD Projekt Red is eating the costs in order to make the new Witcher game what it needs to be.
“The aforementioned decision is based on results of evaluation of the scope and commercial potential of the original concept of Project Sirius, and ongoing work on formulating a new framework for this project,” the company said in its statement.
Announced back in October 2022, Project Sirius is a different take on the Witcher universe. Based on job postings from the studio, it could be assumed that it will feature various popular mechanics. Those could action-based combat, procedurally-generated areas, and numerous co-op elements.
