A report has surfaced claiming that Crystal Dynamics is preparing to cease all development on Marvel’s Avengers, despite there being plenty in the pipeline for the fledgling superhero title.
Instead, CD will refocus its attention, zeroing in on the upcoming announcement of an all-new Tomb Raider title, which (according to the report) should take place later this year. It comes as no surprise, as from the day it dropped, Marvel’s Avengers has been plagued by bad press and unfavourable reviews.
Could we see a new Tomb Raider revealed in the coming months?
Even The Infinity Stones Couldn’t Save Marvel’s Avengers
According to the report published by eXputer.com, Marvel’s Avengers still had plenty of irons in the fire when it came to content. For instance, there were all-new game modes, maps, and apparently, a scheduled clash with Ultron, one of the most iconic villains (sometimes) in the Marvel Universe.
There were also several tie-in characters set to debut on the platform, such as She-Hulk and Captain Marvel. However, owing to internal issues with staff that saw Lead Developer, Brain Waggoner, depart the business, Crystal Dynamics is clicking its fingers and disappearing Marvel’s Avengers from existence – reportedly.
Now, fans of the legendary Tomb Raider franchise sit and wait for news of a new title in their beloved series. This year, it will have been five years since Shadow of the Tomb Raider launched, bringing another episode in the story of ‘modern day’ Lara Croft.
It has been almost thirty years since the first Tomb Raider game was released on PS1, and by today, it remains one of the most popular action-adventure franchises in the business.
As per the report published by eXputer.com, a reveal of the new Tomb Raider, which is being driven by Amazon Games, could arrive later this year. There are claims that insider sources have told the outlet that full-scale development is well underway, indicating that it won’t be long until it’s ultimately delivered.
UPDATE – Crystal Dynamics has confirmed it will be ceasing support on September 30, 2023.
