NetEase Promises A New Hero Each Month in Marvel Rivals

In the near future, Marvel Rivals seasons are going to be shorter, meaning NetEase will add a new hero to their popular multiplayer title each month. The developers behind one of the most played titles on Steam say they’re trying to recreate the excitement of the game’s first months post-launch.

Marvel Rivals Promises a New Hero Every Month, Starting With Season 3

In today’s Marvel Rivals “Dev Vision” video update, the development team highlighted the plethora of changes coming to the game in Season 2. The team also looked ahead to Season 3, and announced a major change to the seasonal model: seasons lasting two months instead of three, and a new hero releasing every month. Back in January, the team promised a new hero every one and a half months (one in each half of a three month season), but starting Season 3, those new heroes become more frequent. According to Creative Director Guangguang, this decision followed “extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluations” brought on by some concerns from the wider fanbase.

“Since the launch of Season 1, we’ve been deeply contemplating how Marvel Rivals can continuously deliver fun and engaging experiences for you all. During this time, several discussions on social media have certainly added some pressure on us to keep the game as exciting as it has been since December. To a certain extent, we agree.”

In addition to prototyping some new game modes, Guangguang remarked that the “fundamental dream” is to integrate more heroes from Marvel into Marvel Rivals. “With our goal of keeping the audience’s excitement alive just like our opening months,” Guangguang said, “the real adventure with Marvel Rivals is just beginning!”

Before the start of Season 3, Marvel Rivals has to keep fans engaged throughout Season 2, but NetEase is packed the upcoming season with plenty of new content. Two new heroes in Emma Frost and Ultron will debut alongside a new map in Krakoa and a number of new Team-Up abilities. Season 2 will also add new base costume colors, the ability to gift costumes, a revamped mission system, and updates to both hero balance and competitive. Season 2 begins April 11th.

How long do you think Marvel Rivals can maintain a rate of adding a new hero every single month? Let us know down below, and join the discussion in the official Insider Gaming forums.

  • Instead of this trash let Nagoshi and others like the BlazBlue creator make their games! Give Suda a budget for a proper No More Heroes 3 not that trash he made and other stuff too like Shadows Of The Dammed 2 and Kilker7 sequel and a No More Heroes anime maybe have Urobuchi write it. Fund Mikami’s new studio.
