Mortal Kombat 12 Launching In 2023

Mortal Kombat 12

Mortal Kombat 12 is on its way.

During its recent earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav says that the game is coming this year.

“There’s lots more to come, including the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, games also set for release this year with ambitious launch projections,” he said.

The news confirms a game that many felt was in development but hadn’t been mentioned publicly by anyone. After it was mentioned, creator Ed Boon took to Twitter to comment with a tongue-in-cheek joke about the other popular NetherRealm’s IP, Injustice.

“So who has heard the news about Injustice 3,” he said.

As far as a full reveal of the game, there’s no information on that front. Based on the history of reveals, one could assume that an official announcement will come this summer, either at our around E3.

We Knew Mortal Kombat 12 Was Coming

For a while now, there had been rumblings of the next game in the 30-year-old franchise. Journalist Jeff Grub went on record as far back as 2021 claiming that the studio was focusing more on Mortal Kombat than Injustice.

“It lines up with the reality and it lines up with what I’ve heard, where Mortal Kombat 12 would make the most sense because that’s a game they know will make money, it will sell well,” he said.
