More Details On The Latest Bungie Layoffs

On Wednesday morning, Bungie announced mass layoffs and employee transitions at the company. These layoffs resulted in 220 people being let go, 155 people moved to Sony, and 75 people moved to a new studio. And while the numbers are known, what wasn’t initially known was what specific teams or areas were impacted the layoffs.

“These actions will affect every level of the company, including most of our executive and senior leader roles,” CEO Pete Parsons said when announcing the layoffs.

Some of those levels, Insider Gaming has learned, include quality control, player support, and developers focusing on art, sound, music, and more. And some areas have been hit more than others.

“My whole team is gone,” former Player Support Analyst Alexandra posted on Twitter.

“And I’m affected,” former Bungie merchandise employee Allie said. “I’m so sick and tired of these layoffs. Unionize unionize unionize.”

“[T]here’s nothing i could’ve done to not be laid off. in fact i was literally working so much that so many people told me “you’ll be ok, we need you to train/manage the outsourcers,” Nadia, who worked on music for Bungie, added.

As far as any senior leader and executive roles, Insider Gaming has yet to confirm any that have been let go as of writing. Should we come across that information, this article will be updated accordingly.

What do you make of the scale of the layoffs at Bungie? Do you think more higher-level executives should be held accountable?

  • Sony needs to trim the fat sell off Bungie maybe to NetEase or Tencent and dump their 50% in EVO they gain nothing from it. Honestly maybe sell the gaming division or sell Sony Pictures.
