League, T1, and Faker Win Big at The Game Awards

In a triple-header spree that’s representative of the ecosystem this year, League of Legends has (kind of) won three trophies at The Game Awards tonight.

League of Legends won Esports Game of the Year, T1 is the Esports Organisation of the Year, and Faker is officially the Best Esports Athlete of the Year. It was a tough competition this year, but following the legendary event that was the League of Legends World Championship, did we really expect things to go any other way?

Heavy is the Crown

The League of Legends World Championship was nothing short of a spectacle this year.

From shattering the esports peak viewership record to London’s O2 Arena playing host to the best opening ceremony in history, League Worlds was like nothing we’ve ever seen before. Millions of people tuned in to see T1 (including Faker) win its fifth world championship title, and from start to finish, the event was a high-octane explosion of entertainment.

It really is the bar for esports tournaments worldwide, and it’s something that all organisers should aspire to achieve.

It has been a busy year in the esports world, but I can’t think of more deserving winners for these three awards.

What do you think? Would you have preferred to see the awards go another way? Let us know on the Insider Gaming forum.
