If you enjoy games like Stardew Valley or Coral Island, then Chef RPG should be on your radar. Personally, I jumped at the chance to play yet another indie RPG, especially one with cooking and management mechanics. It’s right up my alley. But there’s a lot to learn and a right way to start Chef RPG. Or is there?
Which Season to Pick in Chef RPG
When you first start the game, you have four options when choosing a season to begin your journey. Each comes with pros and cons, and you might even consider them difficulty settings, as your choice will alter your playthrough, especially in the early game. Your options include:
- Spring: You’ll find abundant plants and animals to gather and harvest for cooking ingredients.
- Summer: Animals start to thin out, but fish and plants become more frequent.
- Autumn: Fish and other seafood become abundant, along with fruit and mushrooms in the wilds, but animals and plants start to disappear.
- Winter: It’s freezing, and you’ll find little sustenance out in the wild, which makes it the most challenging start.
We recommend starting the game in Spring, as it’s like playing it on easy difficulty, where you can learn the mechanics and gain your footing in White Ash Harbor.
The Best Specialty to Pick in Chef RPG
You must also choose your specialty as a renowned chef during character creation. You have six options:
- Rotisseur: +3 Meat Recipes
- Poissonier: +3 Seafood Recipes
- Entremetier: +3 Vegetable Recipes
- Patissier: +3 Desserts Recipes
- Mixologist: +3 Beverage Recipes
- Saucier: +3 Soup Recipes
While this choice doesn’t severely impact your gameplay in the long term, it does allow you to unlock additional recipes in Chef RPG early on. Each of the game’s specialties provides you with three unique recipes, and you’ll receive a few during the game’s opening sequence as you explore the town with Hasel.
In any case, I recommend taking Rotisseur, Poissonier, or Patissier. You’ll find abundant meat, seafood, and baking supplies in and around White Ash Harbor, making all three viable specialties for you to focus on in the early game.

Chef RPG Tips and Tricks
- Take your time and read the dialogue! This is a story-centric game focusing on characters and relationships, and as there is little to no voice acting, you’ll want to read thoroughly. You’ll receive hints about what people like or want, where to find certain items, and the occasional side quest.
- You can decorate your restaurant any way you like! So long as you have the money to purchase decorations, flooring, and furniture, you can play them in any layout you choose. Once you plop down a piece, you can pick it back up in build mode completely free and relocate it within the restaurant!
- Chef RPG isn’t solely about cooking! You can befriend the residents of White Ash Harbor, eventually becoming best friends and perhaps romantic interests with one of the characters. The game features 24 major characters you may form a relationship with, so feel free to look around and meet everyone before deciding!
