Balatro has become one of the biggest gaming sensations in recent memory. Its core single-player gameplay saps hours of your time, but many in the community want to know if Balatro can be enjoyed in multiplayer. Thankfully, there is a definitive answer to this question.
I’ve run out of superlatives for Balatro at this point. As an avid fan of roguelikes and roguelites, Balatro is right up my street. Its addictive “one-more game” formula does it for me. Its startling array of Jokers—including the sought-after Rare and Legendary Jokers—to its run-altering Tarot Cards and myriad of decks.
There’s so much to enjoy here. But the developer geared Balatro around one player—not multiplayer. Does it mean this has to be the case though?
Can You Play Balatro in Multiplayer?
Officially, Balatro does not support multiplayer, but a PC mod allows you to unofficially enjoy Balatro with other people.
If we’re speaking on the record, Balatro doesn’t have multiplayer, that’s it. I don’t think LocalThunk is even considering multiplayer. However, where there’s a will, there’s a way in the gaming community.
Mods allow users to tinker with different games in a variety of ways. The best Balatro Seeds lets you enjoy a premade experience, but mods alter the core gameplay altogether.
How to Play Balatro Multiplayer
You need to download the Balatro Multiplayer mod from the “Balatro Multiplayer” Discord, install it, and follow the instructions.
The Discord server and Balatro Multiplayer Mod went into beta on April 13, 2024. The mode has received a ton of updates and changes since then. Some are to balance the gameplay and fix bugs, whereas others have added new content not seen in the original Balatro.
Here’s how to try the Multiplayer Mod for yourself:
- First, create a Discord account if you haven’t already.
- Once it’s verified, go to the Balatro Multiplayer Mod Discord.
- Find the Important Stuff dropdown on the left side of the screen.
- Click on the how-to-install thread.
- It’s recommended you install the Balatro Mod Manager.
- If not, follow one of the YouTube guides listed on the page: For Windows, Mac, Linux/Steam Deck.
- Once you’ve followed the instructions, you can play multiplayer.

It remains to be seen if the roguelike ever gets an official multiplayer mode. I think it would be cool, even if incorporated a minor mode.
