Chris McDonald reprises his role as Shooter MacGiven in Happy Gilmore 2, and PGA Tour 2K25 is honoring the character’s legacy by letting you play as the famous actor.
Happy Gilmore and Golf are like peas in a pod. Many people think of Caddyshack and The Greatest Game Ever Played when it comes to golf films. However, I remember sitting in the school canteen toward the end of term and watching the glory of Happy Gilmore. It’s one of Adam Sandler’s most iconic films, and it’s boosted by the stellar performance of Chris McDonald as the villainous rival Shooter MacGavin.
MacGavin is the perfect folly to Happy Gilmore’s quest to golfing supremacy. Happy Gilmore 2 is on the horizon, so what better time for PGA Tour 2K25 to let you play as Shooter MacGavin.
How to Unlock Shooter MacGavin in PGA Tour 2K25

The only way we know of to play as Shooter MacGavin in PGA Tour 2K25 is to have pre-ordered the game ahead of its release date.
If you pre-ordered any edition of PGA Tour 2K25, you were automatically entitled to the Shooter MacGavin character bonus. Even if you only secured the Standard Edition, Shooter would be firing his way into your character selection screen.
Unfortunately, this opportunity has now expired as PGA Tour 2K25 released on February 28. The pre-order bonus window has passed, and we’re waiting to see if 2K adds Shooter as a future DLC purchase. There’s every chance he will be a special unlock in the game’s Superstore, or through different platform storefronts.
Keep checking this guide if you have missed out on the Shooter MacGavin pre-order incentive. We’ll provide an update if he becomes available again through another means.
How to Play as Shooter MacGavin in PGA Tour 2K25
The best way to play as Chris McDonald’s Shooter MacGavin is through Quick Play or other friendly match types, change your golfer when it gives you the option, and change over to Chris McDonald.
Technically, you don’t play as Shooter MacGavin. You control the actor portraying the character. But at the end of the day, we get the idea, and the default outfit is pretty spot on anyway.
Here’s a quick guide to equip the golfer:
- Make sure you pre-ordered PGA Tour 2K25.
- Choose an applicable game mode such as Quick Play.
- Select Local Round.
- Find the Change Golfer option located under your highlighted character and press on it.
- Cycle through the list until you see Chris McDonald.
- Press on him and confirm the selection.
- If done correctly, the golfer shown should now change to Chris McDonald AKA Shooter MacGavin!
If Chris McDonald doesn’t appear in your golfer list, it means you don’t have the Shooter McGavin content. Again, check you pre-ordered PGA Tour 2K25. If so, consider checking in with 2K to chase up the missing content.
