In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, you’ll often need to pick a lock to get somewhere unseen or to access something that someone doesn’t want you to get. From doors to chests, there are many unbreakable locks across Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, but fortunately, you’re able to perform a lockpick mechanic.
In this guide, I’m going to help you understand how to lockpick in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 – there’s even a handy video showcasing exactly what a successful pick looks like.
How to Lockpick in Kingdom Come
Fortunately, lockpicking in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is the exact same mechanic that was present in the first game, released in 2018. If you’ve played that game, it’s likely you understand how to pick a lock in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, but I’ll teach you again as a refresher regardless.
Where to Find Lockpicks in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
Getting through a locked door or chest in KCD2 all starts with the lockpick itself. You can find lockpicks on bandits or other malicious individuals, or you can buy them from various traders, such as carpenters, blacksmiths, fences, and some roaming traders. Alternatively, you can find them – I’ve found some in bird’s nests, for instance.
Of course, you can also just make them yourself – that’s the beauty of the crafting mechanics in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
Kingdom Come Lockpick Guide
Now that you’ve got a lockpick, let’s learn how to use it.
It’s important to stress that locks in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 are tiered by difficulty, and some locks simply won’t be ‘pickable’ until you’ve levelled up your skill points a bit. Many perks buff your ability to pick locks in the game, so keep an eye open for them if you want to go that way.
Let’s say you’ve found a ‘Very Easy’ lock – you can pick that from the start of the game, no questions asked.
Here’s the step-by-step guide on how to lockpick in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2:
- Make sure you’re there’s nobody around you, and engage the minigame to pick the lock.
- Find the ‘sweet spot’ that’s identifiable by the ‘golden ball’
- Once you’ve found it, hold it and rotate the lock by pressing D on a keyboard or LT/L2 on a controller
- While you rotate the lock, move the ball accordingly with the right stick or your mouse, following the path and keeping it in the gold
- If you go far enough around the lock, you’ll hear a click – you’ve picked the lock successfully
That’s all there is to it!
The higher the difficulty level of the lock, the tougher it’ll be to find and maintain the sweet spot. Also, you make noise when you pick a lock, with unsuccessful attempts making a loud and obvious sound that’ll draw attention from nearby guards – so be careful!

How to Improve Lockpicking in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
If you want to get better at lockpicking, practice makes perfect. There are locked chests everywhere in this game, and they’re much easier to pick than locked doors. After all, you’ll never know what’s on the other side of a locked door, but chests are almost always fair game.
When you start the game, make sure you pick up the starter objectives and head to the Lower Semine Mill, here:
Here, you’ll be introduced to Hired Hand Hensel, who gives you an early boost on your sleuthing skills, including takedowns, lockpicking, and pickpocketing. He’ll give you some lockpicks to get started, and there are chests there that you can openly practice on without risking detection.
That’s all you need to know about how to pick a lock in Kingdom Come Deliverance!
