While many might think that Steam is the only option for downloading and managing your games on PC, there is another option. The Epic Games Store is another major DRM platform and storefront that allows players to have one central hub for their games that they buy and install on their PC. It’s only been around since December 2018, but it continues to grow in its usage and what it offers players as far as features. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the simple steps to install the Epic Games Store on your PC and get you started with their ecosystem.
Step 1: Visit the Epic Games Website
To get started, open your web browser and go to the Epic Games Store website at store.epicgames.com. On the homepage, you’ll see a blue button labeled “Download” in the upper right of the website. Click on this button to begin downloading the installer.
Step 2: Download the Epic Games Launcher Installer
Once you click the download button, your browser will prompt you to save the installer file. Choose a location on your computer where you can easily find it, like your desktop or downloads folder. The file is relatively small, so the download should complete quickly.
Step 3: Run the Installer To Install The Epic Games Store
After the download finishes, locate the installer file and double-click it to launch the setup process. If your operating system asks for permission to run the installer, click “Yes” or “Run” to proceed.
Step 4: Follow the Epic Games Store Install Instructions
The installer will guide you through a series of steps. First, choose your preferred installation location or stick with the default one, and then click “Install” to start the process. The installer will handle the rest, and within a few minutes, the Epic Games Launcher will be installed on your computer.
Step 5: Launch the Epic Games Launcher
Once installation is complete, you can open the Epic Games Launcher. When you launch the Epic Games Launcher for the first time, you’ll be prompted to sign in or create an account. If you already have an Epic Games account, enter your credentials to log in. If you’re new to Epic Games, follow the on-screen instructions to create your account.
Step 6: Find and Download Games
With the Epic Games Launcher open and your account set up, you’re ready to explore the store. Browse through the extensive catalog of games, from the latest AAA releases to indie games to classic titles.
Epic Games has regular free games and sales to take advantage of to build up your catalog. And, if your interested in learning it, you can download the Unreal Engine as well.
When you find a game you want, click “Buy Now” and follow the prompts to complete your purchase. The game will then be added to your library, where you can download and install it with just a few clicks. Like Steam, there’s also a Wishlist you can add games to to track new info or when they go on sale.
