Assassin’s Creed Shadows has a few pre-release incentives to get you onboard, and knowing how to claim pre-order bonuses is the difference between confusion and a lot of free gameplay.
I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I have trouble keeping up with the latest pre-order practices. Pre-ordering a game used to mean picking it up from your local store at midnight or the day after. Now, using Assassin’s Creed Shadows as a prime example, there’s Early Access to consider, skipping a full purchase because of Xbox Game Pass, and different editions to choose from.
Ubisoft has changed how it’s handling Assassin’s Creed Shadows and its pre-order content. The Season Pass has gone, but bonuses still await if you’re committed enough.
How to Claim Assassin’s Creed Shadows Thrown To The Dogs Quest
You need to redeem a code for the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Thrown To The Dogs quest pre-order bonus if you buy a physical edition of the game, or make sure you have Shadows purchased and downloaded if you go the digital route.
Physical and Digital are two completely different avenues for gaming. Many (myself included) still favor physical media to keep and to eventually sell to get money back. Whereas digital media is all handled and taken care for you by your system and its storefront.
Here’s a quick run-through of what you need to do, whichever path you decide is for you.
Retail Copies
In the words of Ubisoft: “For the retail versions of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you will need to activate the code you received in the game box.” They are one-time-use codes, and do have an expiry date, so be quick to use them and get the content installed once it’s available.
If you buy a second-hand copy of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, don’t be surprised if the code in the box has already been used.
Digital Copies
If you purchase pre-order Assassin’s Creed Shadows digitally, the extra content should come installed with the game. Take Ubi’s word here again if you’re unsure: “The pre-order bonus content will be unlocked automatically.”
What Assassin’s Creed Shadows Pre-order Bonuses Can You Get?
The Thrown to the Dogs quest is the only launch-day content you can get for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
I’ve covered Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ pre-order bonus content and editions extensively already. But Thrown to the Dogs is arriving on release, and future content—including DLC—is not coming out until later on.
