How To Be An Esports Player | Guide to Going Pro in Esports

Do you want to begin a career in esports? With professional gaming becoming more and more popular every day, many gamers are trying to find out how to become a pro esports player. In this guide, we’re breaking down the steps you’ll need to follow to become an esports player – but be warned, it’s not a case of finding success overnight.

The truth is, you’re about to embark on one heck of a journey. Can anyone be an esports player, or does it take something special? Let’s find out.

How To Become An Esports Player

Competing in gaming may be fun for many, but for some, it is a full-time career. Being the best at a video game comes at a price, as quite a bit of hard work and dedication is required.

What steps does a gamer need to take to become a pro esports player? Here are our best pro esports player tips:

1. Find Your Game

You can’t be a pro esports player without having a game you are best at. Very rarely do you hear of popular esport pros switching games (although, it has happened). Therefore, finding a game you excel at is a must.

For some, the game they are best at is discovered at a young age. Many professional Fortnite players are 13 or 14. But for others, especially with games that do not allow you to compete until 16 or 18 years old, they may not find their stride in a video game until later on.

Knowing what esports game you play the best at is vital to making a career out of pro esports.

2. Practice

Practice. Practice every day. You can’t become a pro esports player just by playing the game for fun every once in a while. Join Discord scrim servers. Play as many third-party tournaments as you can find.

If it is a team-based game, then start networking online until you find a group to play with that you think is good for you. Learn your position in the game. Are you an IGL (in-game leader)? Or are you a fragger?

There are so many different aspects that come into practising to be an esports player. Remember, just like an athlete, this is your training. Do you think a professional footballer player goes out to the field and practices just once a week?

3. Equipment And Hardware

It’s important as a professional esports player to have the best equipment and hardware you can get. Starting out, it can be difficult for many to obtain the best PC possible. As you begin to compete, save up as much as possible.

What’s difficult to compete against is the fact that many pro players have the best gear possible. This means they will have the best FPS and computing speed they need. It may be difficult for someone who is just playing with the PC they got for their birthday to compete with some of these pros.

You do not need the best equipment to start but strive to eventually upgrade to something more adequate.

4. Keeping Up With Your Health

One of the most important aspects of being a pro esports player is making sure you are keeping up with your health. Just like any sport, you can’t be at your best with declining health.

While esports does not necessarily require you to work out to compete, it still is vital for keeping your energy levels at a high. Keeping up with your cardio and weight lifting is great, not only for your body but for your mind.

Watching your diet and not feeding yourself just sugar and foods lacking nutrients is also essential. Everything you eat fuels your brain. You want stuff that keeps it healthy and focused.
