One of the earliest quests in Towerborne tasks you with swapping your class to one of the four available play styles, then completing a mission as each one on the World Map. It’s a simple job for a simple adventurer. But before you even reach this point, you might want to swap your class yourself. Here’s how to switch classes in Towerborne!
How to Swap Classes in Towerborne
To swap anytime between one of the four available classes in Towerborne, hit ‘ESC‘ on your keyboard or ‘Pause‘ on your controller, and then navigate to ‘Class‘ in the character menu at the top. From here, select one of the classes you would like to play and hit ‘Space‘ on the keyboard or ‘A‘ on the controller to equip said class. So long as you’re not on a mission and fighting Gobos, you can switch classes in Towerborne anytime. It’s a fantastic way to grind our additional gear, see everything the game offers, and find the play style that suits you most.
There are four classes to choose from currently:
- Sentinel
- Pyroclast
- Rockbreaker
- Shadowstriker
After playing a mission as each one, I find myself drawn to the Pyroclast. The heavy hammer-like weapon, along with its fire and rocket launcher-like abilities, make it an entertaining class capable of defeating small mobs of enemies single-handedly!

Best Towerborne Class for Beginners
As a brand-new player to Towerborne (Welcome!), you’ll likely find yourself doing the same thing I did in trying out each class to see which suits your preferences best. But if you’re unsure or want a starting point, I’m happy to help with my current recommendation: Sentinel!
It’s an obvious choice, isn’t it? The sword-and-shield hero is the most generic fighter-type class in any RPG or action-adventure game, but it’s there because it’s an excellent choice to learn the gameplay and mechanics.
The Sentinel can block incoming damage and, when appropriately timed, parry attacks that you may follow through with a light attack. They’re versatile, playing offensively and defensively, and have considerable stats that make them ideal for solo and group play.
