It’s the current year, and we cannot have an open-world game without some form of lockpicking or hacking minigame; otherwise, it’s not a game, right? Thankfully, Ubisoft has you covered in Star Wars Outlaws, as it features both. But they’re tricky. Here’s how to lockpick in Star Wars Outlaws!
How to Use the Data Spike in Star Wars Outlaws
If you’ve spent any time playing Skyrim or Fallout 4, you should immediately recognize the interface for the lockpicking minigame in Star Wars Outlaws. Here, you use a Data Spike, which you’ll fix up in the game’s prologue. But that’s where the similarities between the popular minigames end. In Star Wars Outlaws, it’s more melodic and about timing out the correct sequence.
As the tumbler rotates, the yellow light on the right-hand side of the minigame interfaces blinking repeatedly, usually in a sequence with corresponding notes. You aim to “lock in” your device in time with the blinking light. You must synchronize.
As such, take your time and try to memorize the pattern. Time it out and prepare yourself to mimic said pattern perfectly. You must time your presses to match the rhythm. There’s no rush, as you appear to be utterly invincible while in this mode, and there’s no penalty for messing up besides needing to repeat the rhythm cycle. Otherwise, you have as many attempts as you’d like.

You Can Make Lockpicking Easier
I totally understand the desire to altogether remove a lockpicking minigame from an open-world adventure. After a while, it becomes tedious. I felt the same after the first lockpicking mission in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. In Star Wars Outlaws, you can make lockpicking easier, though.
- Open the main menu.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Choose Gameplay.
- Scroll down about 3/4s of the way until you spot Lockingpicking Difficulty.
You can reduce the overall difficulty of the lockpicking minigame in Star Wars Outlaws, turn on or off the visual cues, and remove the rhythm challenge altogether. If you remove the lockpicking rhythm challenge, Kay Vess will automatically unlock a door using her Data Spike upon interacting with a lock. I don’t blame you if you want to turn the setting on!
