Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Announced By Ubisoft

One of the longest-running turn-based strategy franchises is getting a new game for the first time in nearly a decade. Ubisoft has announced the upcoming release of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era

The game will release in early access on PC via Steam in Q2 2025, and is set before the events of the first game. So while it can technically be viewed as Heroes of Might & Magic 8, the game is, itself, a prequel.

About Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era

Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era is being developed by Ubisoft partner studio Unfrozen and brings back the turn-based gameplay of the series’ past.

“Olden Era will introduce a number of new features: Players will have more control over how they level up heroes and their factions, for example, with faction-specific abilities, new systems for learning skills and magic spells, and artifacts that now impart bonuses if players equip more than one piece from a set,” Ubisoft said.

Factions for this new game include Temple, Necropolis, Sylvan, Dungeon, Hive, and a surprise sixth faction to be announced at a later date.

As far as modes go, there will be a new campaign, a number of stand alone maps, a random map generator, and even a custom map editor.

For online play, players have three different options:

Classic: a mode where a player can play with one or more heroes, upgrade the castle and explore the map.
One-hero mode: a blitz-like system, but you have only one hero, so their demise will become yours as well!
Arena: a mode for those who came to battle! Draft a hero, upgrade them, pick your troops, and challenge the enemy right away.

About Heroes of Might & Magic

First developed by New World Computing, Heroes of Might & Magic began as a spinoff of the original Might and Magic RPG series before becoming a full side franchise itself. The original Heroes of Might & Magic launched in 1995. Since New World Computing’s closure in 2003, the series has been owned by Ubisoft. Under Ubisoft, there have been three Might & Magic titles: Heroes of Might & Magic 5, Might & Magic Heroes 6, and Might & Magic Heroes 7.

More details on the new game will be announced at a later date as early access gets close.
