In a new blog post today, PlayStation announced that a new Escalation of Freedom update is coming to Helldivers 2 on August 6, 2024.
The update will introduce brand-new enemies, objective variety, and more. That includes a CR 10: Super Helldive, adding another difficulty level with greater challenges and rewards to match.
There will also be “new mission objectives and bigger enemy outposts for both bots and bugs.” These offer Super Sample rewards, but “many” of the new mission objectives will be available in the existing difficulty levels too.
The new enemies will include the Spore Charger, which uses fog for cover, a Terminid Alpha Commander, and a Rocket Tank Automaton. However, the blog also teases “some other bot surprises we’ll be throwing your way.”
The environments are also getting a new update, with new fog and flora turning swamps into unpredictable areas that limit visibility.
The Escalation of Freedom update also brings a range of quality-of-life improvements.
It will address grief kicking, where kicked players “spawn into a new session as the host with all of the team’s loot from their previous session.” Meanwhile, the previous squad’s loot will remain unchanged.
There will also be “major fixes to the social menu,” as well as “a ton of surprises to discover.” Most recently, Helldivers 2 rolled out a hotfix for the infinite drop-in glitch.
