Routledge has announced the impending release of ‘Handbook of Esports’, a comprehensive and gargantuan deep-dive title into the full breadth of the esports industry. This monster of a handbook is marked as being ‘the first fully comprehensive, interdisciplinary study of esports’, and it’s designed to give even the most uninformed readers the full scope of the wider market.
It’s available to pre-order now with Routledge and will be released on September 24.
Learn Everything About Esports
The Routledge Handbook of Esports is a hefty title, numbering 764 pages and 62 chapters, and featuring contributions from almost 100 industry experts and academics. It’s not cheap, though – buying the book from Routledge will set you back more than $200 for the hardback edition or $40 for the eBook.
If you were looking for the most comprehensive breakdown of the entire esports industry, you’ll be hitting the mark with this handbook, though.
The Handbook of Esports covers everything from the global history of the industry to the key stakeholders, genres, and games that make up the broader business. Hundreds of pages are dedicated to the career process, the skills required to be an esports pro player or a coach, and what goes into dealing with esports injuries.
For those currently studying an esports course at university or college, there’s an entire section that covers esports business and organisation management. This goes into everything from sponsorship to PR, and from organising events to financing a business in esports.
It also covers:
- Esports gambling
- Toxicity in esports
- Esports law
- Environmental sustainability
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better resource to catch up on the last thirty or forty years of esports history.
