The first stage of the Call of Duty League 2025 season is well and truly underway, and in a few weeks, we’ll be jetting off to Madrid to participate in Major I. It’s the first European Major in CDL history, and it’s set to be a monumental event, backed by Toronto Ultra (it makes sense, trust me).
Now that the first couple of weeks are in the bag, we can take stock and look at how this year’s Call of Duty League has kicked off. If there’s one thing we can recognise in the numbers, it’s that Los Angeles Guerrillas M8 is carrying the CDL’s viewership on a broad set of shoulders.
Despite Having Nothing, They Bring Everything
The Los Angeles Guerrillas M8 haven’t secured a single win so far this season, standing firm on a record of 0 – 4 going into the festive break. The team has an overall map win rate of just 33%, putting it just one step above the Vegas Falcons – and one place behind Atlanta FaZe.
That’s a story for another day.
Despite not producing a single win, LAG M8 has pulled in the strongest viewership figures in the 2025 season thus far. The army of fans behind Gentle Mates, which acquired LAG’s spot in the CDL this season, has come pouring into the Call of Duty ecosystem with reckless abandon.
There’s something special about these French viewers, and they’re rallying behind co-streamers and those hosting watch parties in their thousands.
According to Esports Charts, the top five matches so far in the CDL 2025 season look like this:
- FaZe vs. LA Thieves – 158,446
- LAG M8 vs. Carolina Royal Ravens – 172,497
- LAG M8 vs. LA Thieves – 176,427
- LAG M8 vs. Minnesota Rokkr – 204,109
- LAG M8 vs. OpTic Texas – 208,042
By comparison, the 2023 CDL season’s Major I qualifiers peaked at 184,583 viewers, with numbers in 2022 dropping to a scary-low peak of just 81,272. Again, all the data comes from Esports Charts.
