As we all wait for the next GTA 6 trailer, Insider Gaming has been able to confirm groundbreaking news from within Rockstar Games. The most shocking story to come out of the GTA 6 space in months has been corroborated by several sources close to the development of the game – GTA 6 will be released on Xbox 360 as a special version dubbed the ‘Throwback Edition’.
It’s not at all what we expected to learn in the run-up to the release of the biggest game ever made, but it’s what we’ve got.
Never Saw It Coming
Insider Gaming can exclusively reveal that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on Xbox 360 (and perhaps PS3) in the form of a ‘Throwback Edition’.
In a statement secured earlier today from a Rockstar Games representative who gave their name as Don Beleevit, it was confirmed (exclusively to Insider Gaming):
We fully appreciate that there are still tens of people who prefer consuming video games via retro methods, and that naturally includes Xbox 360 platforms. It was more than a decade ago that GTA 5 was released on Xbox 360, pulling in millions of sales in just a few days.
We believe that we can replicate that success with Grand Theft Auto 6, so we’ve worked tirelessly to produce the Throwback Edition, a low-res, restricted version of GTA 6 that a very limited pool of fans can enjoy for at least several hours.
Insider Gaming has learned that the Throwback Edition will be a ‘lite’ version of GTA 6, with reduced texture quality, lowered draw distances, and fewer updates. In a follow-up statement to Beleevit’s confirmation, Insider Gaming was also able to connect with Take-Two’s Ima Lyer, who explained how this decision makes fiscal sense:
Look, when you’re charging $100 for a standard copy of GTA 6, it’s easy to dedicate a few developers to pull together a passion project like this and deliver a little fan service.
As GTA 5 was one of the best-selling games on the Xbox 360 – and we can’t re-release it again – we’re doing the next best thing. We’re giving those fans access to a slimmed-down version of GTA 6 for the special price of $199.99.

Happy April’s fools day.
Hahaha, ya got me!
Had me until the $200 price tag. The whole time I was mainly focused on the total logistics of releasing on an old gen and not on the day it is. Lol
Damn. Got me alright.
Well, you got me. Good job all!
We all know it’s an Apirl Fools joke, but could a Ps3 and Xbox360 even run Gta 6 at all? 😆
There are absolutely people who would pay $200 for this lol
I hate April 2nd (Australia)
HaaaaaaaaH good try there pal.
These gaming companies Rockstar included are not smart enough to realize the retro goldmine.
They will never wake up to the truth of this reality. It is most definitely sad.

The current generation systems will probably have a difficult time running it smoothly so do you really think a 20 year old system could stand a chance at running it at all lol
U had me going until I saw Xbox 360 instead on Xbox 1 or PS4. Y’all could’ve really started an uproar in the gaming community if it was on a little more “believable system.” The $199.99 price tag got me too. 😂
As soon as I saw the title I knew what was going on (even though it’s the 2nd in Australia where I am). Sad that some people fell for this.
I was goin to say cuz they took the store out of 360 so how could we buy it lol….
