EXCLUSIVE: GTA 6 To Release on Xbox 360 With Limited ‘Throwback Edition’

As we all wait for the next GTA 6 trailer, Insider Gaming has been able to confirm groundbreaking news from within Rockstar Games. The most shocking story to come out of the GTA 6 space in months has been corroborated by several sources close to the development of the game – GTA 6 will be released on Xbox 360 as a special version dubbed the ‘Throwback Edition’.

It’s not at all what we expected to learn in the run-up to the release of the biggest game ever made, but it’s what we’ve got.

Never Saw It Coming

Insider Gaming can exclusively reveal that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on Xbox 360 (and perhaps PS3) in the form of a ‘Throwback Edition’.

In a statement secured earlier today from a Rockstar Games representative who gave their name as Don Beleevit, it was confirmed (exclusively to Insider Gaming):

We fully appreciate that there are still tens of people who prefer consuming video games via retro methods, and that naturally includes Xbox 360 platforms. It was more than a decade ago that GTA 5 was released on Xbox 360, pulling in millions of sales in just a few days.

We believe that we can replicate that success with Grand Theft Auto 6, so we’ve worked tirelessly to produce the Throwback Edition, a low-res, restricted version of GTA 6 that a very limited pool of fans can enjoy for at least several hours.

Insider Gaming has learned that the Throwback Edition will be a ‘lite’ version of GTA 6, with reduced texture quality, lowered draw distances, and fewer updates. In a follow-up statement to Beleevit’s confirmation, Insider Gaming was also able to connect with Take-Two’s Ima Lyer, who explained how this decision makes fiscal sense:

Look, when you’re charging $100 for a standard copy of GTA 6, it’s easy to dedicate a few developers to pull together a passion project like this and deliver a little fan service.

As GTA 5 was one of the best-selling games on the Xbox 360 – and we can’t re-release it again – we’re doing the next best thing. We’re giving those fans access to a slimmed-down version of GTA 6 for the special price of $199.99.
