The team at MADFINGER Games has just announced a series of changes coming to the core gameplay loop of Gray Zone Warfare. This open-ended extraction shooter, which was released almost a year ago, promotes both PvE and PvP combat, but these changes will make fighting other players much more rewarding and plentiful.
It all starts with the activation of ‘PvP Zones’, which introduce bigger risks but much more satisfying fights in the open world of Lamang.
Every Move Matters
Gray Zone Warfare’s community has been asking for more PvP mechanics for the longest time, and MADFINGER games is nothing if not a community-first developer. Therefore, the upcoming changes introduced in the impending Winds of War update are focused mostly on that.
The team will introduce PvP Zones that crop up dynamically based on player combat. When you signal a PvP Zone, everything in that zone will be boosted – intensity and XP included. That means that once the action kicks off, it’ll likely remain a persistent thing until the zone has been exhausted, drawing all players into the fray.

Also, COPs (Combat Outposts) are coming to Gray Zone Warfare. This stands for ‘Capture, Occupy, Protect’, and it’s a mechanic that introduces dynamic spawn points and zones that can be taken over and occupied at will. A faction can capture these points and defend them against AI and human enemies, using them as respawn points and vendor spots and to unlock other key services on the fly.
Gray Zone Warfare is a tactical extraction shooter, and other games in that genre tend to prioritise PvP over everything else. While the world of Lamang remains as dangerous as ever, thanks to the vast AI-based groups of enemies on the map, you’ll now need to keep much more of an open eye to spot player threats lurking in the jungle.
Gray Zone Warfare is available exclusively on PC.
