A new report says that the God of War TV series will start from scratch following the departure of the show’s executive producers.
That’s according to Variety, which reports that the series showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have departed the project. According to the report, several scripts were completed for the TV series’ direction, but ultimately, Amazon and Sony decided they wanted the series to go in another direction.
Santa Monica Studio’s studio creative director Cory Barlog remains onboard as an executive producer, as do Playstation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Santa Monica Studio’s Yumi Yang, and Vertigo’s Roy Lee, the report says. No announces have been made on who will play Kratos in the God of War TV Series.
The show was initially greenlit as a series for Amazon Prime Video in 2022, and its delay now means that the series is likely at least three years away at the minimum.
Video game adaptations have seen great success in recent years, with HBO’s The Last of Us and Amazon Prime Videos Fallout proving tremendously successful, reaching tens of millions of viewers.
