One of the trophies in Monster Hunter Wilds is the Monster (Squid) Hunter, a bronze trophy that requires the player to fish a giant squid.
As the task is relatively complex and involves multiple steps, we have prepared this guide so that you don’t face difficulties with it.
How to obtain the trophy Monster (Squid) Hunter
The first step to fishing a giant squid is to complete the fishing side quests. They can be obtained from the NPC Kanya at the Scarlet Forest region camp. You will need to complete the following missions:
- Fishing: A Microcosm of Life
- Seeking the Goldenfish
- Fishing for Favor
- The Catch of a Lifetime
After completing the side quests mentioned above, she will give you a quest called Razzle Dazzle.
It is important to obtain this quest because along with the request she will give you the Tentacle Jig. This jigle is ideal for “capturing aquatic creatures that have tentacles”. Be sure to equip the Pathfinder Jewel in your equipment to increase your chances of fishing. And, most importantly, the Giant Squid or rather, the Goliath Squid, only appears at NIGHT at Area 17: Great Lake Shore.
During my tests, the Goliath Squid appeared in different weather conditions but it’s best to rest in the nearby tent and set it to Plenty to increase the spawn chances.
Goliath Squids are very fast and will frequently move left and right to try and break your fishing line. ALWAYS follow its movements and only pull when it stops moving.
