Could the Gears of War franchise benefit from a complete reboot? If you ask its creator Cliff Bleszinski, it does.
In a recent interview with Comic Book, Bleszinski says that the series needs a fresh start similar to another classic franchise.
“I believe Gears needs a little bit of a reboot, like God of War had, and I’ve always said, Phil Spencer has my number, I’m happy to consult,” he said. “Gears will always be near and dear to my heart.
“Late afternoon, if I have a mimosa in me, sometimes I’ll go to YouTube and I’ll look up key cut scenes from the Gears franchise, like Dom’s death, or Dom having to put down his wife, and I read the comments.”
Bleszinski left Epic Games back in 2012 after leading the design of the first three Gears titles. The last Gears of War game, Gears 5, launched in 2019 for Xbox One and was developed by The Coalition.
The next game in the series is reportedly in development, though it hasn’t been confirmed by Microsoft.
