Playground Games co-founder and former studio head Gavin Raeburn has founded another AAA gaming studio, Lighthouse Games.
According to the release announcing the studio’s formation, Lighthouse Games consists of a team that includes former Playground Games members.
“I’m delighted that 30 former colleagues and other industry heavyweights have chosen to join me at Lighthouse,” Raeburn said. “With Horizon, Playground and I created one of the most successful Xbox franchises of all time. We delivered significant commercial success year after year, to massive critical acclaim, following the success from my time at Codemasters leading Dirt, Grid and F1.
“That DNA is now at Lighthouse, and with it, we intend to build something truly special using all our experience to create a new genre-defining franchise.”
The new studio is currently working on a new unannounced IP. No information on when details about the game will be released was provided.
“Lighthouse’s ambition is to create a studio that embodies what it means to be at the bleeding edge of video game development – a studio that enables developers to create the best work of their career, in an environment that feels truly collaborative,” it said via press release.
Found in 2010, Playground Games has been responsible for the Forza Horizon franchise. It’s also developing the upcoming Fable reboot. Raeburn left the studio in January 2022, leaving fellow co-founder Trevor Williams to take over as studio head.
