In the last few hours, Pokémon fans worldwide have been left reeling from a massive Game Freak leak that has uncovered thousands of files from past, present, and future games. One of the most impactful revelations from this breach is the unveiling of ‘Pokémon Movie 24’, an adult-themed reboot movie that might have been lost in production.
Bring Them Back
Per a post on social media revealing the contents of the files, Codename Bauer has been in development since 2021 and was supposed to be released in 2023. It’s not clear what has happened to the film.
It was claimed that this film would have tackled ‘adult themes’ like bullying and suicide, and it was designed to be a reboot that would ‘reconnect with lapsed fans’ to bring back more grown-up viewers.
Here’s what the post claimed on Twitter:
It’s set in modern Kanto and the main Mythical Pokémon of the plot is Mew. Two new protagonists: Light and Akari (male / female). Directed by Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan).
Alongside this sat a claim that a new Pokémon anime (Codename Reload) and a follow-up movie to Detective Pikachu are both in the works. The recent Game Freak leaks revealed everything about these projects right down to full plot outlines.
Codename Reload has reportedly been produced with Twin Engine, known for A Whisker Away. It consists of 12 episodes that’ll be delivered over a year, being broadcast on platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Like Codename Bauer, the future of the production is unclear as it should have already been published.
Game Freak addressed these leaks, stressing that the breach occurred in August and that remediation efforts have been made to mitigate the data loss.
