For me it kinda goes something like this:
1981 to 1990 = MARIO 1
I have only started gaming in late 90s but the influence of Mario 1 was still felt at the time & undeniable. Even now decades later, many games (especially Indies) have this standard set "is it fun as Mario 1?".
1991 to 2000 = FINAL FANTASY IX
FF9 is IMO the magnum opus of both Squaresoft & Sony PS1; a gargantuan technical marvel of JRPG. Gripping story, memorable cast of characters, deep gameplay & amazing world to unravel. Which is why many today salivates at the idea of a full-blown remake .
2001 to 2020 = HALO
Halo 1 may not did FPS first, but for me & for sure to many, it made it cool & fun for endless holy-****-did-you-see-that memories. Tight but just right controls, so many options both singleplayer or multiplay, epic story & an epic main dude in Master Chief.
2021 to 2030 = ELDEN RING
Yes the decade isn't over yet & yes GTAVI may be the frontrunner for this, but as of this moment, I just believe Elden Ring is videogame near-perfection; best-in-class gameplay, massive amount of content to go crazy about in various ways on its awe inspiring, breathtakingly wonderful Lands Between & infinite moments that just simply makes you .
