Not always the case, but as Shigeru Miyamoto once said, "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad".

Its a feeling of mine that almost every game would be delayed if they could. Games today are released and just never feel finished. Always takes 2/3 updates to get them to where they should be at release. I think publishers have a lot to answer for on this.
