The US Department of Justice in a court filing Tuesday night said it may recommend dismantling Google’s core businesses, separating Google’s search business from Android, Chrome and the Google Play app store.
“That would prevent Google from using products such as Chrome, Play, and Android to advantage Google search and Google search-related products and features — including emerging search access points and features, such as artificial intelligence — over rivals or new entrants,” the government said in its court filing.
Alphabet (Google's parent company) responded with a detailed consequences if this happens which essentially boils down to:
Splitting off Chrome or Android would break them — and many other things.
Make no mistake: Breaking them off would change their business models, raise the cost of devices, and undermine Android and Google Play in their robust competition with Apple’s iPhone and App Store
Because Android and Chrome are used by so many developers and device makers across different industries — from cars to fitness devices to TVs to laptops to apps and more — changes could impact many businesses and the people who use their services.
Typing this right now on an android phone & chrome, of course I'm worried.
I'm no techie by any means lol but whatever stuff the feds want for them to do this has got to be potentially risk especially when it comes to privacy or something else.
The movie Die Hard 4 makes me think like this that's why I'm sorta paranoid with stuff like this lol (iykyk ).
Thoughts on this everybody.
