Sony joins Anthem, Suicide Squad, Avengers, etc. as videogame cautionary tales: Just DON'T do live-service if your audience doesn't ask for it ok?

Bioware. Incredible success with single-player RPGs (KOTOR, Mass Effect, etc).

Rocksteady. Critical & commercial success with Batman Arkham games.

Crystal Dynamics. Rich history & iconic franchise with Tomb Raider.

Sony, since the PS1 era, has always been known for offline single-player games mostly in third person camera perspective (with Killzone & Resistance series are outliers).

Out of the blue & with little marketing push to boot... They do an FPS that's both ONLINE-ONLY & live-service.

Nobody asked them to do this. We love our God of Warses, Last of Uses, Spider-Men, etc. not to mention the countless third-party exclusives.

Not even the market; the Overwatch-like games are so overpopulated like zombie games of the mid-2000s lol plus I haven't even mentioned millions of free-to-play games & if I'm not mistaken Concord was a $70 game right?

I've read in a report that Concord cost Sony $400 million. Don't know if that's accurate but as PlayStation fan for a long time now it makes me wonder...

Just... why?

With that money they could've made Days Gone 2, SOCOM 5, Twisted Metal 6, Legend of Dragoon 2, etc. & many, many more of their own IPs that've been long dormant & forgotten yet to this day still massive following.

I guess just like somebody famous once said, we live & we learn (IYKYK).

Hope they do!

Seriously I really wish Sony make what they do best & take heart the trust so many players over the years invested in them. Sure try to make things differently every now & then but never stray away from your bread & butter.

I mean who can resist like bread & butter 😉

Thoughts on this guys.

In Sony's case they just made the wrong bet and are likely doing so again with FairGame$.

They have one of the most successful live-service games in GT Sport and now GT7, they just need to realise what the market actually wants.

You can't give people what they ask fo forever, they must give us what we don't know we want. In the case of concord, they should have known we don't want it, we already have a bunch of it
