Mergers, acquisitions, deals, etc. you guys could think have the possibility to happen sooner or later?

On that note any others before you thought could've worked out & such?

My top 3 gotta be:

1. Nintendo & Studio Ghibli
2. Pandemic Studios (😞) & Avalanche (Just Cause, Mad Max, etc)
3. Disney / Marvel deal to Sony / Guerilla Games to make Hawkeye open world

Speaking of which, what does everyone think of the pros & cons of them? Especially the recent "big one" when Microsoft acquired Activision-Blizzard, obviously along with their numerous & beloved IPs.

I vaguely remember couple of years ago or so there was an attempt of company takeover because they were losing money or whatever the reason was. It was probably Embracer the one who buys every single dev ever & other things like Lord of Rings lol

Me personally tho Cap? I hope Sony buys Ubisoft. Their portfolios align so much (big open world single player games, etc) & IMO finally Socom 5 happens made by the guys who made Wildlands 🥺 (since Zipper is gone now).

Totally Yeez & other than Sony-Ubisoft thing which I just told Cap above there, there's always that rumblings that Square-Enix get eventually bought out by Sony.

Or maybe Konami. Both even.

To my eyes it's only fair since Microsoft bought Activision-Blizzard, which they already broke several promises (Starfield PS5 etc) & who's to say they won't do the same with COD & Elder Scrolls right?
 
I would love to see an end to mergers and acquisitions, and all new studios built from the ground up. Those new studios would bring out new IPs, new attempts at genres, unique and next gen experiences. Having Tencent, Microsoft, Sony buying up everything isn't good for the consumer. I also don't trust those companies.

That could happen yeah and according to HHG so will Sony maybe acquire Kojima Productions soon.
 
I don't think Sony would be silly enough to take on Ubisoft.

They aren't making titles that're selling, resonating or even smashing critical reviews (barring PoP lost crown)

They have a LOT of staff that Sony would be taking on, on top of the staff they already own and the money it would cost to acquire them

They'll either go belly up and be poached for IP, like what happened to Midway, or they'll be bought up by a megacorp like Embracer or Tencent.

Yeah that makes perfect sense too dude.

Recently for Sony they haven't even seen the Bungie purchase return. Insomniac yes of course.

Their most important IP are Assassin's Creed, possibly followed by Ghost Recon & Rainbow Six, overlaps with Sony's Ghost IP in a sense too.

Rockstar might be the one who's a perfect fit for Ubisoft; they (R*) mostly only focuses on 1 game & they're open worlds. For better or worse Ubisoft's expert on that genre too.

Someone buying Ubisoft seems like the obvious one, their stock is plummeting right now and I'm sure Tencent wouldn't be against increasing their investment or even someone like Amazon swooping in.

Maybe Disney buying Epic Games? They've been getting closer and closer, really depends on if they want to run their own studios again and if Tim Sweeney is willing to lose control.

Honestly I wish all the acquisitions would come to an end. It's just mega corps spending billions on each other and the individuality is disappearing.

I would argue the more individual entities there are the better for the consumer.

Yeah, I really don't like the new practice of big corps buying up other corps. Like after a while, you end up with companies that have like vaults overflowing with IP that we will never see another take on, because the parent company is only interested in one thing.
 
Sony could not afford to support a studio like Ubisoft with so many employees, so many internal problems and projects that are probably trying to see the light of day but who knows when they will, even if they are big franchises like AC or Far Cry, they barely manage to maintain their studios and have a balance especially since with live services. Sony should buy smaller studios and release games while the AAA ones start coming or simply expand their own studios and hire new people so that new ideas come out and something else comes out... in rest, I hope to avoid cases like MS-ABK, but I don't think it will happen.

What is more likely to happen is for either a mega corp like Amazon or Tencent will literally buy up controlling stakes in the company and take it over.

Or, they'll wait for Ubisoft to basically bottom out. Pray they keep up their current rate and run themselves into the ground so other companies can swoop in and pick the IP off the corpse.

I actually don't. I really want them to survive because that is a LOT of staff that're going to be left without a job. I'd be more than happy to see a change in leadership. Clearly the man at the top isn't as hot as he was 15 years ago and has been leading the company from storm to storm.
