These games likely aren't even that far away [EDIT: I'm sorry, I mean anytime soon and are likely still four or five years out, especially by today's apparent standards]. It was something to get out there to help Xbox or PlayStation. Kojima announced OD with Jordan Peele just to drum up attention, when the idea, I bet wasn't even off the storyboard, and likely only came from some lunch between Kojima and Peele. Kojima is still working on Death Stranding 2 and I bet still afford a very big team. Odds are very likely that's why Death Stranding was ported to Xbox, Kojima is scraping for money.
I know people want to see the Kojima they want too but, Konami actually made the right decision to cut him loose. When you look at Metal Gear Solid V, you can really see where Kojima was falling in love with his own legend, where his ego has inflated to the size of the Sonic Macy's Day Parade Balloon. I'll bet Konami told him to hold it down knowing we have to have our leash pulled to keep us in order and Kojima fought it. Most game developers, and even film creators during their credits card will put WRITTEN, PRODUCED, AND DIRECTED BY on the same card. Play Metal Gear Solid V and count how many times Kojimas name flooded the credits burying anyone else's. Now, sure, or was supposed to be episodic, of course, but even within that sphere the number of times Kojimas name flashes is overwhelming. Konami, surely, tried to reign him in be he went his own way.
Kojima was a humble man then, today, he probably rides on the same plain as Neil Druckmann, both equally as egotistic. Kojima was once a force to be reckoned with, but without someone there to keep him humble, he won't see nearly the successes he once had
