From HDD to SSD: But What's the Next Big Leap in Storage Tech Really?

I was having a conversation with Ty about Read Dead 2 & how big of hassle it is for me who's still in the HDD world because it's such a massive game as far as I know (Google specifically says 150 gigs!!!).

So I told him that I'll probably play the game if or when I get a PS5, which contains SSD, because... Wel... Deleting & resintalling + slow internet download speeds = 😭 🤬 😢.

Anyway it got me thinking; what could be the next technological marvel human beings conceives to help not only videogames obviously but every other sector that runs on electricity in terms of storing all our ever precious data.

Speaking of, I have a question to you guys because aren't servers stored in hard drives still? Not SSDs? Both? Like those big CPUs on top of each other or something I saw in movie Die Hard 4.

I'm genuinely curious tho when zombie apocalypse happens or aliens invade us if our PSN purchases will be safe forever & ever 😉

Thanks guys.

I honestly think streaming tech like Flight Sim uses. You have downloaded base visuals but higher quality assets are streamed from the server. Honestly really impressive.

Also it’s been interesting to see that sometimes Xbox’s loading is fasting than PS5 despite PS5 having the superior memory speed. Xbox is doing something with the Velocity Architecture

Well I guess it'll be NVME M.2 SSD's for awhile as the 5th generation of them just recently got released on PC and I can see the PS6 having it or something newer maybe. But whatever it is so don't I hope it's streaming/cloud related!

You MS Flight Simulator right dude? Yeah that game is so big isn't it like size of IRL Earth lol

So yeah maybe that's the way it's gonna be eventually. Only pushback would be it's always-online, which is a deal-breaker to many still (including myself 😉).

Btw didn't MS tried to do same thing with Crackdown 2 or 3 but then they realized it wasn't worth it or something? You remember this?

Thank you bro.

Same here Yeez bro.

I genuinely there's still option for offline.

Yes there's cons but IMO the pros of being offline outweighs that immensely.

Like being in control of you own drives or what have you in the event of outage, etc.

I genuinely hope top tech companies like Sony, Nintendo, MS, Apple, etc. will always give players options not just in stuff like this but in many other ways going forward.

I mean variety is the spice of life right?

Actually I had a 10+ year gap in my gaming due to being busy raising three kids. So I missed out on those. Three kids and remote work also means we have 60+ interconnected devices in our home. So I’m always online regardless. But I understand and appreciate the sentiment of being in control of how you want to play.

I feel like Kojima’s Overdose game will have some crazy online streaming component.

Exactly as I do want to keep gaming but not the cloud/streaming way though... So I hope the option to play games offline will always exist without having to pay for it and I can just do it like how things are right now and not via a monthly/yearly subscription like Game Pass etc.

And yes exactly man... Gotta give everybody the choice to game the oldschool way too!
