Dumb question I guess but WHY do we have to install games when they're on discs again?

Aren't discs contain the data already?

I can't speak for digital games tho.

This always fascinates me & it's an annoyance to be honest because game installs are now 50 GB on average & some are even in hundreds.

Which forces players (well at least me lol) to spend additional just for more console storage.

I'm not that techie lol so I legit wanna know your takes on this IG community.

Thanks!

I thought it was because most of the game data wasn’t actually stored on the disc these days.

Discs contain some data, but it’s mostly just a collectors item.

That’s just what I think I remember reading though I’m definitely no expert either.

These days most of the data is installed onto the system storage for faster access to the data, it allows for more data to be loaded quicker as access speeds of HDD/SSD's is way quicker than a disk drive.

This tbh.

I'm also gonna guess that the speed of the drive and compression of files make it much slower than just running on the HDD.
