Concord, I'm so far behind!

My apologies if this is faux pas here (at least give me a like for using that word!)
Was listening to the Sacred Symbols from September 26 where Colin defended the reasons he believes Concord cost $400M to make.
Of course, realizing this is from Sept 26 makes me realize how far behind the times I am.
He clarified that he didn't say it cost Sony $400M; but that the game investment total was $400M.
He said he only had one source but that he spent 4.5 hours on video calls with this individual; easily verified his identity and know this person would be in a position to know. He said the source could have lied to him but that's why he spent so much time with this individual because he didn't believe it at first either.
Some of his logic:
He said the publisher that raised $250M in Series A funding shuttered one other studio and canceled the game and downsized the third studio. And that all that is left for ProbablyMonsters is two very small dev teams.
He said that the game likely cost $100M before Sony even got involved as the publishing partner
He said the leadership team was made of industry vets used to making very big expensive games
He said to look at mobi games to see how many people worked on the game; Sony did A LOT of outsourcing
He said, just look at their recent history of overpaying for Bungie, canceling the TLOU online (which the entire study was working on), and canceling Deviations' game - he said this is not a Sony that is being run well, especially as it looks to the live-service market
All those things make him believe his source is telling him the truth; but acknowledges they could be lying
And he said, people are not ready to know how much games cost in the near future. This $400M cost will not be alone.

It was fascinating. It puts into my mind how all these publishers are in danger of major investments failing due to the cost. The unsustainable cost at a time when consumers are pulling back spending; it's scary.

Do you think we are through the worst of the industry layoffs yet?

Dude I'm not a techie or expert on money stuff but these budget things fascinates me too same as you.

I've always wondered when stuff like this are on the headlines & ask: WHERE DID THE MONEY GO?

Like, is it for guys' salary divided amongst them? How can marketing cost be that expensive? Looking back I don't believe Sony marketed the game as hard as they did with GOW, Tsushima, TLOU, etc for example.
