Despite the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 being 12 years old, Call of Duty 2025 is in development for last gen consoles.

When Microsoft were in the process of buying Activision didn't they say that they wanted COD on the Switch? If Switch 2 is similar to last gen consoles then it makes sense to build it for that as well. With the rise of the handheld pc market to consider as well, it's shooting for as many potential customers as possible.
 
And apparently so will the 2026 COD game be developed for next-gen consoles only... Which so far might mean only the next Xbox coming in 2026 or 2027 and the PS6 which should be out during Holiday 2027 or even later like Holiday 2028 maybe.
