On September 16, Electronic Arts revealed details about the next Battlefield game, along with a single shot of concept art that refused to reveal the game’s real name. We’re still working with the assumption that it’ll be called ‘Battlefield 6’, but hopefully there’s room there for something more creative to surface.
Following the art drop, eagle-eyed fans compared the concept art with real-world locations, eager to figure out which country was depicted in the shot.
And then Insider Gaming confirmed where it’s located.
Purely Conceptual
Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella addressed the next generation of Battlefield recently, outlining a few core details about the game. He mentioned that it’s a ‘return to classic Battlefield’ with 64-player maps and a resurgence of the class-driven multiplayer system.
He also stressed that the team is looking at a 2025 release window, but whether it makes that is another question entirely.
Along with the information came a concept shot, which showcased an urban environment under siege, with a forest ablaze, choppers in the air, and explosions erupting in the distance. Fans were quick to question where the concept art is located, even if the driving topic was whether or not AI was used to create the image.
Based on map and image comparisons, it was determined that the concept art is set in Gibraltar, the minuscule British territory located between Spain and Africa.
Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson corroborated those assumptions:
It’s not the first time Gibraltar has surfaced in a Battlefield game. Historically, the region appeared in Battlefield 2142 as an area under contention between PAC and EU forces. Other users were quick to point out the geographical importance of Gibraltar, further highlighting how it fits nicely into a Battlefield concept.
