Borderlands 4 footage is finally out in the barren wilderness. We’ve known about the FPS title’s existence for a while now, but 2K’s newest chaotic and carnage-inducing Borderlands entry is formally announced, and we know its release date, and what to expect.
2009’s Borderlands introduced the world to a new kind of hellscape. Pandora is ravaged by horrible creatures and bandits while tyrannical corporations battle for domination. 15 years later, the series has seen beloved characters blossom before our eyes and also die in a heartbeat.
The future looks even more bleak as Borderlands 4 is coming. With Gearbox Software continuing at the helm, let’s find out what antics and madness they’ve got in store this time around.
Borderlands 4 Release Window
Borderlands 4 is due to release sometime in 2025.
We can’t pinpoint an exact date yet, sadly. However, Borderlands 4 looks to be moving along quite nicely. Aug. 20, 2024, was the day Borderlands 4 was officially announced—courtesy of the Borderlands 4 Official Teaser Trailer.
However, The Game Awards 2024 went one better and finally gave us a sneak peek into the next charged chapter.
Is Borderlands 4 Coming to Consoles?
Yes, Borderlands 4 is coming to consoles; more specifically, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Along with the console ports, PC users can play Borderlands 4 too. It’s available to purchase and download through either the official Steam Store or the Epic Games Store. There’s no word on a Nintendo Switch port though, and if you’re on previous-gen hardware such as PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you’re fresh out of luck for now.
This might change in the future though, so stay tuned for updates on its console availability.
Do we Know Any Borderlands 4 Characters?
The initial footage has yet to reveal the identity of new or returning characters. But it looks like Borderlands 4 is carrying on the series tradition of giving us new Vault Hunters—along with an evil new villain. Gearbox does a great job at marketing its games, so we expect many more trailers and gameplay demonstrations showing us what to expect.
Here’s the Official First Look at Borderlands 4—thanks to the official YouTube channel.
Curiously, I get the impression we can either control or work alongside Psychos—which would be groundbreaking! This is speculation—and possibly hope on my part—so we’ll see the direction they take in Borderlands 4.
There’s plenty of cause to be excited for Borderlands 4, with one terminally ill fan who had the fabulous opportunity to get hands-on early and describing the sequel as “amazing.” But what about you? Are you hyped for a fourth main entry in the long-running looter-shooter series?
